The Wartburg College baseball team will open a bid for a seventh consecutive Iowa Conference title when the Knights play Upper Iowa on Thursday. Wartburg is 16-4 to this point and coach Joel Holst believes they are ready for the league race. He says they’ve been all over the place, Florida, the Metrodome, to get ready for the league race. The pitching staff is talented and deep, led by returnees Chris Goert from Dyersville and Patrick Smith from Lawler.Goert hasn’t lost a game in two years. Holst says a good junior varsity program always has players ready to step in when someone else graduates.
