While the war in Iraq looks to be drawing to a close, there is talk about which country might be next. Iowa Senator Tom Harkin says he’s heard some speculation that the focus would turn to Syria.Harkin says he’s there’ve been rumors that run around Washington that “they” want to put action on Syria. But, he says he’s not sure how serious those rumors are. Harkin says we need to be sure Iraq is stabilized before doing anything else. He says we need to move rapidly to get food, water and emergency services back in order so Iraq becomes a functioning society. Harkin, a democrat, says it will take some time to get a stable government in place in Iraq. He says there are a lot of different factions to deal with and it won’t be easy. Harkin says while there are many reasons for the war with Iraq, oil is one of the biggest.
