Firestone officials broke ground today on a new Global Ag Tire Distribution Center in Ankeny. Governor Tom Vilsack says the project’s a big boost to the state economy. Firestone plans to build an 850-thousand square foot facility, at a cost of 50-million dollars. Vilsack says other Iowa businesses will benefit.Vilsack says John Deere’s Waterloo Works will be able to get tires from the Ankeny facility, at a cheaper shipping cost. About 50 workers will be employed at the Firestone Distribution Center.Vilsack says one of the reasons Firestone picked Iowa for the project is because they know Iowans will put in a “hard day’s work.”
