U.S. Commerce Secretary Don Evans was in Iowa yesterday, touting President Bush’s tax cut package. Evans says during his own 30-city tour on behalf of the tax plan, he’s never found a worker who opposes it. Evans says American workers like the plan, and he’s “a little confused about why there seems to be confusion in Washington whether or not we ought to pass the plan.” Evans says the plan will provide a short-term stimulus and more jobs.Evans says the focus is on jobs, because when “you get down to the American Dream…a job is at the absolute center of it.” He says there are three important reasons to pass the tax cut: jobs, jobs and jobs. Evans made his remarks at the Diamond Mills Manufacturing plant in Cedar Rapids. He spoke last night in Des Moines at an Iowa Republican Party fundraising banquet.
