Iowa has dropped one notch on the new national list ranking states for teacher pay. Iowa was 34th last year and fell to 35th on the list compiled by the National Education Association. The average Iowa teacher on this survey made just under 39-thousand dollars this school year, that’s up about two-percent from last year. Of surrounding states, teachers in Nebraska and South Dakota were paid less, while those in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Missouri made more. Nationwide, South Dakota had the lowest average annual teacher pay at 32-thousand-400, while California teachers were paid the best, bringing home better than 56-thousand a year.
