While many places around the country are focused on honoring American troops and veterans this holiday weekend, Clear Lake is zeroing in on the cultures and customs people from other nations have brought to Iowa. Bonnie Schmidt is helping organize the International May Festival, underway Saturday and Sunday at Clear Lake’s city park, right at the lake. She says it’s an international ethnic festival celebrating the diversity of the state.Schmidt says the festival includes ethnic souvenirs, demonstrations by artisans, international foods and all sorts of entertainment, from singing to dancing.There is no admission charge. The fest runs 10 to 5 both days.
