The victim of a fatal illness in a Winnishiek County that may be related to meningitis has been identified. 18-year-old Kyle McCormick was a senior at Decorah High School and was scheduled to graduate Sunday. He became sick and was taken to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where he died Monday. McCormick may have contracted a form of meningitis, although state officials say that has not been confirmed. State officials do say they don’t believe the case is connected to a confirmed case of meningitis in Allamakee County. Counselors have been on hand at Decorah High School to help students deal with McCormick’s death.
