A member of an internationally-known band that plays “thrash metal” has been arrested in Des Moines. Witnesses tell police a red Porsche ran a red light Sunday afternoon and hit another car. The driver of the Porsche was hurt, taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries — and was later arrested and hauled to the Polk County Jail. He identified himself as 31-year-old Paul Gray, of Urbandale, the bass player for the band Slipknot, which is based in the Des Moines area. Gray was charged with running the red light, possession of cocaine and marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia as officers found two syringes in his sports car. You wouldn’t recognize Gray from his mugshot as Slipknot’s members all wear masks — Gray is the one in the pig’s head. Slipknot’s last album, called “Iowa,” was a global best-seller.
