Law officers in rural Iowa towns need to be on the lookout for another new narcotic being used as a so-called “date rape” drug. Jasper County Sheriff Mike Balmer says the drug “Foxy” has been found in central Iowa — and he says it’s potentially lethal. Sheriff Balmer says Foxy in its liquid form has been seized days ago in Grinnell. It was a clear liquid but can have food coloring added to make it look like something innocent, like Kool-Aid. Balmer says Foxy is normally found in tablet or powder form — and it’s fairly easy to make. Balmer says it can cause impairment and memory loss, just like other more common date rape drugs. He calls it a “club drug” that’s trendy and is spreading from college towns to other areas. Balmer fears area high schoolers will hear about the college students using the drug and think it’s cool.Balmer says his drug task force was made aware of the drug in the past few days after a young person in Grinnell overdosed on Foxy and was put in the hospital.
