An Iowa native is playing the new love interest on the cable TV hit “Sex and the City.” Thirty-five-year-old Ron Livingston grew up in Marion, Iowa. His mom’s a Lutheran minister and according to Livingston she’s thrilled he’s now portraying Jack Berger, Carrie’s new boyfriend on the H-B-O hit “Sex and the City.” The actor was interviewed yesterday by Regis Philbin and Kelly Rippa on the “Regis and Kelly” show, where Livingston revealed he attended Yale.He graduated from Yale in 1989, spent three years in Chicago, then moved to Los Angeles. The main character on the H-B-O “dramady” once dated the actor who wound up as the husband in the “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” movie, so the role could be a launching pad for Livinston. Livingston doesn’t know who he beat out to get this H-B-O role.Livingston says whenever you’re hired, the casting directors tell “you that you were their first choice,” but actors suspect others may have turned down the role or been “hit by a bus.” Livingston talked about filming the love scenes with Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays the show’s main character — a “sex columnist” for a New York newspaper. Livingston says they don’t do much rehearsing of the sex scenes, plus there are all sorts of camera and sound operators in the room, like the “250 pound grip eating Cheetoes about four feet away.” Livingston says the characters “didn’t jump into the sack right away” as the characters went on a few dates first. “They teach you all that at romantic interest school,” Livingston says.. Livingston turned 35 on June 8th. “Sex and the City” airs on Sunday nights at eight o’clock. You may have seen him in the 1999 movie “Office Space” with Jennifer Aniston, which has become a bit of a cult classic.
