Some of western Iowa’s citizen-soldiers are returning to the Hawkeye State within hours. Some 40 members of the Sheldon-based 2168th Transportation Detachment of the Iowa National Guard will be flying into Sioux City about 4 o’clock this afternoon. They were mobilized for active duty on April 8th as part of Operation Enduring Freedom and were deployed with an Alabama-based unit. There will be an informal homecoming celebration today with families and Guard leaders, with a formal welcome home event being held on a later date.
