If you get caught speeding on an Iowa highway, you can use your high-speed internet access to pay the ticket. Beck Colton is the spokesperson for the Iowa Supreme Court which oversees the lower court system. Colton say the on-line payment system makes it more convenient for people to pay tickets and will hopefully ease some of the burden on the clerk of courts offices. She says they don’t have any projections as to how busy the site will be, but she says processing tickets and simple misdemeanors is one of the biggest jobs for the clerks. She says they process over 800-thousand schedule violations and simple misdemeanors per year. Colton can’t say how much work this site might save. She says the other on-line services are immensely popular — such as the on-line records service — which gets 200-thousand hits a day. Colton says you can pay the ticket on-line by surfing to www.iowacourtsonline.org. She says you should look for the green box at the front of the site and it will take you to the on-line payment site. You can then complete the forms and provide your credit card information. Colton says the website can handle almost all traffic violations, although it will NOT handle most parking tickets as they’re handled through individual cities.
