Alledged mail bomber to undergo more psychiatric testing

September 24, 2003 By admin

A court hearing was held in Cedar Rapids Tuesday for the accused mailbox bomber. Luke Helder was a college student at the University of Wisconsin when he admitted planting homemade pipe bombs in rural mailboxes in states including Iowa. Several people were injured when the devices exploded as they opened their boxes, and the case sparked security precautions until Helder was arrested. He told investigators he wanted to send a message and had planned to plant the explosives at locations that would form a face on the road map of the midwest. This week, a judge said Helder’s to remain for four months more at a federal prison hospital in Rochester Minnesota.
