The rivalry between two of the leading presidential campaigns in Iowa has allegedly gotten a bit ribald. Democratic presidential candidate Dick Gephardt gave a speech in Des Moines yesterday, and as has become the custom, a “spy” from the Howard Dean campaign was sent to the event to hear what Gephardt had to say and gauge audience reaction. The Dean folks say their guy was pushed and shoved by a Gephardt aide, and received a verbal lashing, too. The Dean folks are demanding an apology and asking Gephardt to fire the staffer who allegedly did the shoving and swearing. The Gephardt campaign denies anything happened, but a cameraman from a Des Moines television station saw the fracas which happened at the back of the room as Gephardt was speaking.
