Power plant discussion continues

March 23, 2004 By admin

There’s another public discussion tonight on the proposed Dairyland power plant. No final site has yet been chosen for the coal-burning plant, though the three locations being eyed include one just across the border in Alma, Wisconsin, one in New Hampton, and a spot in Otranto Township in Mitchell County. At a similar public event last month opponents of the power plant invited an Iowa State University groundwater specialist to speak on the risk that a plant might pollute drinking water. Tonight the featured speaker will be I-S-U professor Eugene Takle, an agricultural meteorologist who’s studied global warming. Dairyland serves 25 member electric power cooperatives. Tonight’s information session at the Church of Christ in Osage is sponsored by advocacy groups including Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement.
