ISU downs FSU on the road

March 24, 2004 By admin

Iowa State took an early lead and then held off a late rally by Florida State to down the Seminoles 62-59 Tuesday in Tallahassee. The win in the N-I-T was the Cyclones’ first on the road since December. Cyclone coach Wayne Morgan said on his postgame show on the Cyclone Radio Network, that senior guard Jake Sullivan got things going with hot shooting from the outside. He says Sullivan got them going by hitting four three’s in a row. Morgan says they played extremely hard in the first half and that took the Seminoles by surprise. He says F-S-U came out of the halftime and played hard, and he says his team missed some shots they normally hit. But Morgan says they stayed together after missing those shots and didn’t let it get to them.Morgan says they’re playing as good now as they’ve played all year. Sullivan said it was good to get off to such a strong start. He says he got going early and got a nice rhythm and says that’s the nice thing about playing a new team. The win ups Iowa State’s record to 19-12 overall, and they will have a chance to make it 20 wins in the next round with a home game. It’ll be a doubleheader with the women Thursday night in Ames.
