Iowa State’s defensive line has a number of young players but that unit will be considered a strength heading into the 2004 season. Sophomore Jason Berryman leads a group of four returning starters up front after finishing second on the team in tackles last season as a true freshman in which he was named Big-12 defensive newcomer of the year. Berryman says he is trying to add weight for next season. He says he wants to get bigger, without losing his speed.Berryman was considered a surprise last season as a true freshman but says he is still motivated to become better. He says there’s always someone else out there that’s better, and he says you have to keep working hard.While Berryman posted impressive numbers last season the Cyclones as a team did not, finishing 2-10 on the season. He says that’s the biggest focus.The Cyclones’ spring game is April 17th.
