Several Olympians ready for Drake

April 19, 2004 By admin

For many of the competitors at this week’s Drake Relays the ultimate goal this season is a trip to the Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. Relays director Mark Kostek says a large number of Olympic hopefuls contacted him looking for a chance to test their progress. He says they have around 70 coming, and if they have ten percent that medal, that’s incredible.Kostek says he was concerned the calendar would find Olympic hopefuls starting their outdoor season later in the spring. He says he was worried in January with the games in August and September, and the Relays are as early as they can be on the calendar. He says he worried and got gray hairs for nothing. The multi-events begin the action on Wednesday morning.
