Janvrin’s decathlon string ended by understudy

April 23, 2004 By admin

The torch was passed in the Drake Relays decathlon on Thursday but not very far. Travis Goepfert won his first Relays’ title, edging out Kip Janvrin who was seeking a 15th crown. Like Janvrin, Goepfert is from Panora and grew up idolizing the former Olympian. He says this is something he’ll remember for the rest of his life. He says to be able to pass the torch is awesome. Goepfert says with all that Janvrin has accomplished it makes the win even sweeter.Goepfert says it is mind boggling that someone could win the decathlon 14 times. He say realistically he is heading into his prime at 25 and should beat him. He says his body hurts and he doesn’t know how Janvrin continues winning.RyAnne DuPree bounced from being in third after the opening day to win the heptathlon. DuPree is from Texas-San Antonio and says she knew she didn’t do too well to start with and says she just went and did a lot better.
