After a three-day weekend, the trial of a western Iowa woman accused of murdering her abusive husband resumes this morning with the defense starting to bring up its long list of witnesses. Defense attorney Greg Steensland says he plans to call 32 witnesses to the stand, including Dixie Shanahan herself. Steensland will argue self-defense, saying that Shanahan shot her husband during a fight. On Friday, the prosecution rested its case. Prosecutor Charles Thoman tried to paint Dixie Shanahan as a pre-meditated killer who shot her husband as he slept after his 150-thousand-dollar inheritance ran out.
