Students at a Dubuque school got more of an education than they expected during an animal exhibition. Professional snake handler Dan Roth of Galena, Illinois was showing students at Dubuque Hempstead High School how a rattlesnake attacks its prey. The timber rattlesnake bite through a balloon Roth was holding and struck him in the hand. Roth was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City. None of the students at the “snakes alive” presentation were injured.
