Next week’s Midwest League All-Star game is nearing a sellout. The Cedar Rapids Kernels will host the game next Tuesday night in Veterans Stadium. Kernels general manager Jack Roeder says they still have 7 or 800 tickets left, but it looks like it will be a sell out by gametime. He says the All-Star game is a chance to put the franchise on display, a chance to showcase the stadium, organization and city. The All-Star game has not been in Cedar Rapids since 1991. Roeder says serving as the host goes beyond the game itself. They also host a luncheon Tuesday that will include former major leaguer Rob Dibble. Not only are team officials preparing for the All Star game they are also following the Kernels who are on the road this week. Cedar Rapids is in the hunt for the Western Division first half title, just one game out of first place with six to go in the first half. They qualify for the playoffs by finishing first or second.
