Waterloo police chief is hospitalized

Waterloo’s police chief is off the street — and in the hospital.Officials aren’t saying why Thomas Jennings is hospitalized. Waterloo fire rescue paramedics were called to his home around 8 A.M. Sunday on a report of a medical problem. Jennings was taken to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, where he was hospitalized for an undisclosed medical condition. At the request of his family, no further information is being released. Jennings has been with the Waterloo Police Department since October, 1974. He was appointed chief of police on November 21st, 2000, by then-Mayor John Rooff following the retirement of former chief Bernal Koehrsen. Jennings is 49.
