Triathlete dies in swimming phase of competition

A holiday weekend sporting event in northwest Iowa turned tragic. An Emmetsburg man died while taking part in a triathlon event on Saturday at Five Island Lake. Witnesses say the man was having trouble swimming. Lifeguards pulled 36-year-old Robert McCartan to shore and administered C-P-R but couldn’t revive him. He was pronounced dead at Palo Alto County Hospital.(1 cut, Brent Palm, KICD, Spencer)
