Power outage causes wastewater dump in Storm Lake

November 5, 2004 By admin

A two-hour power outage in Storm Lake caused a wastewater dump at one of the city’s largest employers. The Department of Natural Resources says an outage that began around 3:30 A-M Thursday contributed to the release of nearly 200-gallons of process wastewater to the Sara Lee parking lot. The water flowed into a stormwater ditch but was prevented from reaching the sewer intakes or Storm Lake itself. D-N-R officials say the plant’s parking lot was diked to contain the wastewater and was in the process of being pumped out and returned to the wastewater treatment system, late Thursday.
