The Iowa Racing and Gaming commission gave final approval today (Thursday) to a Las Vegas to purchase the Lakeside Casino in Osceola. Shawn Higgins is the lawyer for the Herbst Company which could close the deal sometime in January. Higgins says they want to make some changes once they complete the sale. He says they want to bring in 550 news games, giving them a net gain of about 100 new games. He says they plan to make a lot of asthetic changes with new carpet and wall coverings. He says they also want to upgrade the steakhouse and buffet. Higgins says they also have future plans for the casino. He says they see an opportunity with 80 undeveloped acres at the site. Higgins says there are a lot of things they can do to expand. He says they’ve talked about doubling the number of rooms in the hotel and expanding the r-v park. Herbst is buying the casino from the estate of William Grace.
