Davenport fire investigators are releasing new information about a Tuesday duplex fire that left a father and his two children badly hurt. Davenport Fire Chief Mark Frese says 25-year-old Mike Stewart is burned on 20 to 30-percent of his body. Four-year-old Daniel Stewart is in critical condition and six-year-old Amber Stewart is on life support. At last check, Amber had no brain activity and the family is deciding whether to donate her organs. Frese says none of the three victims were breathing when they were rescued from the burning home but crews were able to resuscitate all three and get them to a Davenport hospital, then to University Hospitals in Iowa City for urgent care. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but Frese says it’s believed to be accidental. The investigation reveals only one of the smoke detectors in the house had a battery and it’s unclear if it was working. Mike Stewart, the father, was the only person burned in the blaze. The children suffered severe smoke inhalation.
