Iowa fugitive caught in Missouri

The chase of Iowa fugitive Nick Briner ended last night in speed and confusion in Missouri. Authorities in northern Missouri’s Chariton County were alerted about Briner after a report of stolen gas near the county line at 11 p-m Wednesday. Chariton County sheriff Chris Hughes describes the pursuit. “It was a very high speed chase that lasted for quite some time. He was chased from Keytesville to Rossville which is approximately 15 miles, mostly on gravel roads.” Hughes says Briner was under the influence of Methamphetamine during the chase. Briner initially escaped from the Adair County jail around noon Tuesday. From then to the time of his arrest, Briner allegedly stole six cars and is now facing charges in several jurisdictions. Hughes says Briner was without a plan when he was caught. He didn’t have any direction of travel where he was going. He told me he just didn’t want to be where he was at. Hughes says there were no injuries during the chase, but his department did have to block off a school where there was a basketball tournament going at the time. Hughes says fortunately Briner’s route led him away from the school.
