Young Iowa couple marries, then enlist together

March 22, 2005 By admin

Some couples do everything together. Two north-central Iowa high school sweethearts have decided to join the military as a couple. Harlon Selser and Kelly Chisholm got married back on June 1st, and the 2004 Osage High School graduates have decided to enlist together in the Air Force. Everything started when the couple filled out a form on a recruiting pamphlet. Harlon was set to sign up since he had dreamed about being in the Air Force, but Kelly didn’t sign up until she learned about possibly helping fund her education for a job in the medical field. Kelly leaves next week for a six-week basic training cycle as her contract is for a general job in the medical field. Harlon, meanwhile, leaves on May 18th. Harlon wants to go into electronics, but found out those jobs are not available right away in the Air Force, so he’s going to try his hand at military police. The pair will be together through the Join Spouse Program, which ensures that the couple will always be assigned to the same permanent base.
