Newton police have a suspect in an incident that caused the evacuation of the high school this week. It was first thing in the morning, 8:30 A.M. Tuesday when a note was found taped to a bathroom stall in Newton Senior High School. The paper said, in somewhat unclear terms, that someone would die by ten A.M. that day…and every day this week. Superintendent Steven McDermott called police, who arrived within minutes and decided to evacuate the school to be on the safe side. Some students were angry. Some said they were fearful, and went home for the rest of the day. On Wednesday police announced they’d charged a 16-year-old student, Anna McNamara, with harassment in the first degree, an aggravated misdemeanor. She was released and will be referred to juvenile court.
