Union members at the Lennox Plant in Marshalltown have rejected the company’s latest contract proposal. Mike Schnelle is a spokesman for U-A-W Local 893 that represents 11-hundred workers. He says they hope to get back with the company as soon as possible so they can work out a “fair and equitable” agreement. Schnelle would not comment on any specifics of what the union is seeking. He says, “That negotiation happens between the union and the company, and that’s where we’re going to get it resolved at. It doesn’t do any good to say anything more than that.” State Representative Mark Smith of Marshalltown says everyone is keeping an eye on the situation. He says, “It is a tension here in the community. However, I think it is important for the company and the union to be able to negotiate.” This is the third time the union and company have failed to reach an agreement. Union workers have been working without a contract since January.
