Prom wrestling incident leads to death of girl

April 29, 2005 By admin

A case of teenage rowdiness in Cherokee County that led to an unexpected injury has now claimed a life. Officials say a northwest Iowa high-school student injured while wrestling with another student at a post-prom part last weekend — has now died. 17-year-old Kay Ann Kruckenberg of rural Aurelia was injured last Sunday in the school’s gym. She was taken to a Sioux City hospital where she was put on life support, and died yesterday (Thursday). Aurelia Police Chief Gene Shure says the teen and another student had put on sumo-wrestling suits. Kruckenberg fell backwards and hit her head on the gym floor.
