June 3, 2005 By admin

The season ended without a national championship but it was a satisfying one for the Wartburg baseball team. The Knights finished fourth in the country after posting a 2-2 record at the division three World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin. Wartburg coach Joel Holst says if you can’t be happy with being fourth place in the nation, then there’s a serious problem. He says his team performed well most of the season while under pressure. He says the thing he will remember most about this season is how the team came together at the right time. Holst says the guys came together and performed their roles as the best they could. He says they ended up with great pitching and defense, another thing he says he’ll remember.Wartburg finished with a ninth straight Iowa Conference title an Holst says the senior class has built on the momentum of the program. He says they proved that winning a national championship is something they can do. He says they felt they were in the games they lost and it was a matter of not playing well, not the other teams being better. The Knights finished the season with a record of 37-11.
