A clue or two may help Council Bluffs police solve a Sunday afternoon armed robbery at a home-improvement store. A store guard says when he saw a shopper put some pricey power tools into her shopping bag and head for the door of the Menards store, he told her to stop. Instead she pointed a handgun at him and ran into the street. About that time a motorist called police to say he’d been cut off in traffic and a woman rushing to get into the car that blocked his way pointed a gun at him while he was honking in protest. He followed the suspect vehicle over the Missouri River bridge into Omaha, but when he called 911 to alert law-enforcement, dispatchers told him not to chase down the suspect car himself but come back to give a description to the police. The store security guard says he knows the suspect who’d said hello to him in the store before the incident.
