Harlan man charged with sex abuse

A Harlan man is charged with third-degree sexual abuse after allegedly having sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl. 18-year-old Brett Greer was arrested by Shelby County law enforcement authorities and placed in the Shelby County Jail on 13-thousand dollars bond. Under Iowa law, an individual can be charged with sexual abuse in the third-degree if one person is at least four years older than the other and the victim is 14 or 15 years old. The incident allegedly occurred in February of this year. Greer is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on August 22nd. If convicted, Greer faces up to 10 years in jail and a 10-thousand dollar fine.
