Graceland opens season with Southern Nazarene

August 26, 2005 By admin

Graceland will kickoff the college football season Saturday night with a matchup against Southern Nazarene University in the annual Wheat Bowl in Great Bend, Kansas. The Yellowjackets are coming off an 8-2 season and are nationally ranked. It is the second time Southern Nazarene has played in the Wheat Bowl, which matches N-A-I-A teams. It is the sixth year the school has offered football and is no stranger to Graceland coach Chris Welch as he grew up near their campus.Welch says Southern Nazarene has become a consistent winner having posted a winning record in each of its first five seasons. With a veteran team coming back and a national ranking of 23 the Yellowjackets have high hopes for this season but the first game always presents some question marks. It’s a seven o’clock kickoff.
