Week three features rated matchups in high school football

September 16, 2005 By admin

In high school football action tonight a pair of rated teams collide in class 4A as second-rated Cedar Falls visits number seven Cedar Rapids Kennedy. In class 3A three teams in district eight are ranked and two of them meet this evening as seventh rated Denison-Schleswig host tenth rated Carroll. Denison coach Dave Wiebers says this is just the first in a string of tough matchups. He says the teams in the district are 14-2 in non-district games. Wiebers says Carroll causes them a number of concerns as they’re well-coached with great speed. He says they’re physical and play solid defense. The Monarchs are 2-0 and Wiebers likes the progress to this point. He says they’ve found some weapons on offense and have played well on special teams. In the eight man class second ranked Twin River Valley is at home against number-five Northeast Hamilton. T-R-V coach Dave Cirks says his team has a number of new faces this season. Cirks says they lost 10 quality seniors and have just four seniors this year and are looking to the sophomore class to provide some depth.Cirks says these teams are not strangers as they played twice last year and split the games with T-R-V winning in overtime in the playoffs.Cirks says regardless of the outcome this will be a good test with the district race upcoming. He says they didn’t have a lot of problems in the first two games, so it will be a test to see how they react if they’re challenged.
