Governor begins walking tour

September 27, 2005 By admin

Governor Tom Vilsack started his annual “Walk Iowa” week this (Tuesday) morning in Lamont. Vilsack ran a marathon this past weekend, so he didn’t start his walking tour on Monday. But this coming Sunday Vilsack and his wife will be hosting the Governor’s Cup Race that starts at Terrace Hill — the governor’s mansion. Vilsack started an annual walking tour of small-town Iowa six years ago. Towns along the route this year include Aurora, Stanley, Oelwein, Orchard, Osage, Mitchell, St. Ansgar, St. Charles, St. Mary’s, Farmhamville, Gowrie, Harcourt, and Dayton. Vilsack will walk about 100 miles this week, and in a prepared statement he urged Iowans to think about stepping up their own activities to increase physical fitness and improve their health.
