Senator Grassley meets with Supreme Court nominee

October 5, 2005 By admin

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley met privately with Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers on Wednesday afternoon for about 45 minutes. Grassley, the senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, says the meeting wasn’t in-depth enough for him to make a decision about backing her. Grassley says “There was nothing negative about the meeting I had with her that would keep me from supporting her, but that meeting in and of itself was not significant enough for me to make a judgement.” He says he wants to hear her answers to various questions in public, not only from him but from the 17 other members of the committee.
