Accused in fatal Okoboji boat accident pleads "Not Guilty"

October 11, 2005 By admin

The man accused in a fatal hit-and-run accident on West Lake Okoboji is pleading not guilty to all charges. The Dickinson County Clerk of Court says lawyers for 29-year-old Justin Nearman of Sioux Falls entered the written plea of “not guilty” to all charges. Nearman’s charged with operating a boat while intoxicated resulting in death, and also with operating a boat while intoxicated resulting in serious injury. He’s also charged with failing to give aid at the scene of a boating accident. Nearman was reportedly operating a boat in a fatal accident back on August 12 in which Michael Brosnahan of Perry was killed and his wife Jill was badly hurt. Nearman faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
