I-S-U police find car believed linked to fatal hit-and-run

December 5, 2005 By admin

Iowa State University Police believe they’ve located the vehicle that was involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident Saturday. 20-year-old Iowa State University student Kelly Laughery of Orient was struck while walking along a roadway.

Police commander Gene Deisinger says they received a tip on the vehicle Sunday. He says they obtained a search warrant and did find a 1992 Buick Century with damage that appears to match the evidence at the accident scene. Deisinger says they are looking for the owner of the vehicle. He says they, “have information about the driver that we are pursuing, but I don’t have any information to release on that at this time.”

Deisinger says they’re looking for any other help they can get in the case.
He says they are continuing to request assistance from anyone who may have knowledge of or been involved in the accident. It was the second fatal pedestrian accident involving an I-S-U student in less than a week. A student from Minnesota was hit and killed by a tour bus in Ames last Wednesday as he tried to cross a street.
