U-N-I on the brink of football championship game

December 7, 2005 By admin

The U-N-I football team is a victory away from a trip to the national championship game as they prepare for Friday night’s game at Texas State in the semifinakls of the 1AA playoffs. U-N-I advanced after beating top ranked New Hampshire on the road 24-21.

Panther coach Mark Farley says the team is very determined right now. He says the game was very physical and the team was sore afterward. Farley says the team appreciates the support they’ve had from everyone, as he says this is a “great ride, and we’re trying to do the right thing to finish this thing.”

This will be the third straight home game for Texas State which has defeated Georgia Southern and Cal-Poly. He says Texas State is a very good football team that’s very athletic and fast on defense. The Panther defense was outstanding against a New Hampshire offense that had averaged better than 40-points per game. Farley says they’ll face another tough quarterback this week and calls him a “Vince Young Junior” in reference to the Texas quarterback.
U-N-I is 10-3, Texas State is 11-2 and the winner advances to next week’s 1AA title game in Cattanooga, Tennessee.
