Former New Hampton teacher pleads "not guilty" to sex charge

A former New Hampton teacher accused of making inappropriate remarks to a teenage girl while the two were talking on-line has pleaded innocent to the charge. 50-year-old Lee Ayers is charged with a felony count of sexual exploitation by a school employee. Authorities filed the charge against Ayers on November 2nd and he resigned from the New Hampton School District shortly after the girl reported the incident. Ayers had taught high school social studies for over 20 years in New Hampton and also coached girls’ basketball , volleyball and boys’ golf. His trial is set for February 1st.
