Fires do damage in Northwest Iowa

December 26, 2005 By admin

Northwest Iowa fires kept firefighters busy over the weekend. Arnolds Park Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Youngbluth says they were called about 3 A.M. to a home where the tenant was home. He and some friends escaped without injury, but the Milford fire department came to help because nearby buildings contained gunpowder.

The firefighters were called back when the fire flared up in spots Saturday morning and stayed for an hour and a half putting out hot spots. Another fire did significant damage on Saturday morning to a Ruthven restaurant. They arrived about 9 A.M. and found smoke coming from Mama Moose’s and had to clear the air to figure out most of it was coming from the basement. The floor had to be shored up so investigators could come start searching for the cause.
