Deadline for hunting, fishing licenses nears

January 3, 2006 By admin

You have one week left before you need to renew your hunting and fishing licenses for the new year. Mick Klemesrud, a spokesman for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says all of the hunting and fishing licenses expire on January 10th. Klemesrud says the licenses can be purchased all over the state through the electronic system. He says they can swipe your driver’s license at the terminal and it will print off a strip for you new license. Klemesrud says thousands of people will purchase licenses. They sell 170,000 hunting licenses and about 325,000 fishing licenses each year. Klemesrud says there usually isn’t a huge rush to renew licenses right away in January. Klemesrud says they see a big spike in licenses around March as people start to think about the spring turkey season. He says most of the fishing licenses are issued by June. He says everyone from 16 to 64 needs a license. After you turn 65 you can buy a lifetime license.
