Iowa basketball coach Steve Alford has had extra time to bring his team back to earth this week. The Hawkeyes have been off since last Saturday’s win over Illinois and return to action Saturday with a visit to Penn State. He says it’s been a healthy week with no injuries, and they had a chance to watch some other teams play, and he hopes they’ve gotten better. The Hawks beat Illinois despite not shooting well and Alford says the key for his team is to be consistent on the defensive end. He says he thinks the team is learning more about what a good shot is. Alford says they may go through six minute stretches where they don’t get field goals, but he says if they play good defense, then maybe they can stay in the games. Iowa is 12-4 overall.
