Des Moines police dog to be honored on TV

January 13, 2006 By admin

A Des Moines police officer and a dog were scheduled to fly to Florida this morning. The dog, a trained K-9 officer, almost wasn’t around make this trip. “Reno” helped city cops including his handler till the night in October 2004 they sent him looking near a wooded area for the suspect in a drug-related shooting. When Reno found the man, he started shooting at police and hit the dog, who was badly wounded. Vet surgery pulled him through and though Reno’s retired from the force now, he and his handler, Officer Tim Nading, are going to Tampa to appear live on the cable-television channel “Animal Planet” Sunday evening (at 7:00 P.M. CST) receiving an award from the American Kennel Club for canine excellence.
