Toledo man gets 20 years in prison for party shoot out

January 20, 2006 By admin

A Toledo man will serve time in prison for a party in rural Tama County that turned into a shoot out in 2004. The Tama County Attorney’s Office says 30-year-old Mario Salazar pled guilty to second-degree burglary and willful injury in the case and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Police say the incident took place on February 29th, 2004 after Salazar was ejected from a drinking party at the residence of Vincente Ruelas and Salazar came back into the house armed with a .45 caliber handgun. A gun battle ensued with Salazar shooting Ruelas. Reuelas was not charged as police said he was actin in self defense. A third person was injured by a stray bullet and was charged for his part in the crime and is currently in prison.
