Two men suspected in a Quad Cities abduction and murder have finally been charged in the case. On November 25 a man returned to his Davenport home to find his roommate, Chris Nixon, missing and the house splattered with blood. A burning body discovered near Mount Vernon, Illinois, was later identified as that of Nixon, and two days later 50-year-old Steven Dietz and 35-year-old William Smith were arrested in Virginia. Both were wanted on other warrants from Iowa and were brought back to the Scott County jail. After waiting on reports from the state crime lab, Scott County Attorney Bill Davis this week charged both men with murder, wilful injury and first-degree robbery. They made their first appearance on the charges Friday and remain in jail.
