Governor talks with Electrolux executives in Webster City

February 14, 2006 By admin

Governor Tom Vilsack spoke with Electrolux executives today (Tuesday) about the future of their Webster City plant. Vilsack says they told him in the latter part of 2007 or the beginning of 2008 Electrolux will open a facility in Mexico that will make one of the products that’s now made in Webster City.

“They will continue to make another product in Webster City but won’t require quite as many people as they have in the past,” Vilsack says.

Vilsack says this is another example of Iowa facing change in industry. The governor says the Electrolux situation points to the need to transform Iowa’s economy — whether it’s small towns or big cities.

He says ensuring Iowa’s at the forefront of the renewable fuels industry is one way to help rejuvenate the economy and ensure there are quality jobs available throughout the state.
